VCE Dance

Utassy began its Year 12 academic association in 1985 with Suzanne Watts who completed HSC Classical Ballet. We continued with the introduction of the then new VCE Dance Styles, having a student (Arden Woodford) gain a Premier’s award in that year. Utassy changed to VCE Dance when the Dance Styles study was discontinued. Over the years a significant proportion of students have qualified for VCE Dance TopClass held annually at the Recital Centre and also TopActs held as a showcase for top scoring students from VCE Dance, Music and Drama. Their choreographic/composition potential can be realised and their ability to analyse dance is developed.

Students may take Units 1 and 2 in year 10 or in Year 11. Similarly they can take Units 3 and 4 in Year 11 or in Year 12.

Students must attend three classical classes, one character, one contemporary and one extra hour per week for the theoretical component of the unit.

We also aim to see a live performance as a class during the year. A Course Outline and detailed Work Requirement or Coursework and submission dates are distributed at the beginning of each unit. 55% of the course is practical, and 45% theoretical.
